Revolutionize Your Bottle Lamb Feeding Time
A lot of people don’t realize how much time bottle lambs can eat up… until they’re in the middle of it.
Between mixing milk, hauling buckets, and feeding multiple times a day—it adds up fast.
I used to hand feed bottle lambs until 2 months old. As my flock increased I started using a bucket; still time consuming but better than individual bottles 3+ times a day.
Last lambing season, my uncle, shared something with me that I honestly wish I had known years ago.
It’s been a huge time saver here.
Here’s what I do:
Mix 25% DRY lamb milk replacer with 75% soybean meal, and offer it in a grain trough as early as you’d introduce grain.
At first, they’ll still rely on milk…
But as they grow, you’ll notice them naturally start eating more of the dry mix and less from the bucket.
By around 30 days, if they’re eating it well, you can often wean them off liquid milk completely and let them get their “milk” from this dry mix.
A couple things I’ve noticed:
It cuts down dramatically on chore time
They drink a LOT more water
Their water pail will end up with a lot of milk fat residue in it so it will need to be scrubbed with hot soapy water
I hope this time saving recipe can help you in your operation.
